Glen Park Gospel Church >> Bible Studies >> Favourite Readings #13
The Read Through the Bible in Three Years plan is still running on this web site and can be followed on the above 3 Year Bible link. This year however, we continue with a year of the most favourite Bible passages grouped together under one or more themes each month. You will notice that the reading may be short, sometimes only a few verses, seldom more than twenty. Also you will probably read some passages more than once, but in a different context.
If you are settled into a regular pattern with your devotional time, please continue to enjoy it, but if you are not in the habit of regular Bible reading; here is your opportunity. Make a habit of selecting something from each reading to encourage and fuel your prayer time. A point of praise; encouragement to pray; a lesson to learn or an example to follow. Use the Bible passage to keep your prayer time active and interesting. Look for God to speak to you through His word and wait on Him. He is not in a hurry. Then share this blessing with someone else.
Each month we will update the tables below to include the current month's readings, until eventually another full year is portrayed. It will then always be available from our Archive of Study sections.
The key word is seek or seeks. They are a short devotional thought to give you something to carry with you through the day and share with anyone you meet to extend your blessing to them. It may open up a discussion or testimony opportunity. Who knows! Reduce each thought to a few words to act as your memory key.

Joan had provided us with a series of messages by David Williams from the letter to the Hebrews. This month's readings take us through that letter in a Jewish, and then a Christian setting.

The New Testament writers were so steeped in Scripture they had memorised, that its words and thoughts are constantly surfacing in their works and words by quotation, allusion or an hint. Our readings for March identify some of these for you. Many you know already. Some may stimulate and others you may challenge.

April opens with telling of the Easter story, the focal point of the Bible, as told mostly through Luke. Today, Easter begins and ends within a few days, but the body of Christ, the Church, grows, and continues to grow, as a natural consequence of Jesus ministry, mission and His deputation of the Apostles and early disciples.

The readings for May continue our review through the life, death and after ministry of the Lord Jesus through his apostles and prophets. We have reviewed His birth, his life, his ministry, miracles and teachings. We have watched him die by cruel Roman execution and then the miracle of his resurrection., and his return to his heavenly Father. All this time there were those who believed and followed Him. There are those who believed in Him and millions who believe in Him still. As you read, become aware that what the disciples are doing, Jesus is doing by the working of His Spirit in the lives and actions of His people. This after all is the Christian life.

This month we are following the verse selections of F B Meyer from his book, Great Texts Through the Bible. He selects a significant verse for each and every chapter of the Bible. We suggest that you put the text into its context and use that passage, or better, the entire chapter to stimulate your own prayer time. If you possess this excellent book, we suggest that you read his selection as part of your daily daily devotional. It is available on the Internet for an average of $A40 delivered. We begin at the minor prophets with Daniel. Read consecutively, day by day to get the whole story. (The stories in Daniel in our Bibles are not in strict date order.)

Again this month we follow the verse selections of F B Meyer from his book, "Great Verses Through the Bible". It helps keep our selections meaningful and workable. They should be long enough to be logically readable and short enough to give you time to ponder what the Bible writer is saying. As you begin ask the Lord to give you a passage that will encourage you in your life with Him, just for you, just for today. As you finish pray, even if briefly, for your family, friends and the felowship.

This month we take up to read through the remainder of the Letter of Paul to the Romans. Paul, a Jewish Pharisee considered that God had called him to minister to Gentiles. See 11:13, something he explains at depth in chapters 9 through 11. But much more than that, this month's readings will demonstrate the mercy and grace of God to all. Romans is a digest of doctrine and every Christian really needs to master it to understand the depth of God's mercy to we sinners and the greateness of His grace toward those who confess their need and acceptance of Him.

"I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart."

In this month's readings we look again at the One who came to die. First we paint a word picture the Old Testament prophecies, then the characteristics of His nature, and the event of Jesus coming as recorded by Dr. Luke, a physician who interviewed the participants of this unique and instructive event.
