Glen Park Gospel Church >> Bible Studies >> Favourite Readings #11
The eigth year of favourite Bible readings. The Read Through the Bible in Three Years plan is still running on this web site and can be followed on the above 3 Year Bible link. This year however, we continue with a year of the most favourite Bible passages grouped together under one or more themes each month. You will notice that the reading may be short, sometimes only a few verses, seldom more than twenty. Also you will probably read some passages more than once, but in a different context.
If you are settled into a regular pattern with your devotional time, please continue to enjoy it, but if you are not in the habit of regular Bible reading; here is your opportunity. Make a habit of selecting something from each reading to encourage and fuel your prayer time. A point of praise; encouragement to pray; a lesson to learn or an example to follow. Use the Bible passage to keep your prayer time active and interesting. Look for God to speak to you through His word and wait on Him. He is not in a hurry. Then share this blessing with someone else.
Each month we will update the tables below to include the current month's readings, until eventually another full year is portrayed. It will then always be available from our Archive of Study sections.
These readings complete our metaphors commenced in December Green Leaf seeking to portray and explain the person and work of Jesus Christ. Each daily reading details a separate theme for us to consider.

The Bible likens God's children to many things. Each object mentioned this month is like the believer in one or more significant ways.

"In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace."
Ephesians 1:7 (ESV)
April readings include Easter, preceded by selections of human need and Divine prediction and followed by New Testament application and instruction. They include many favourite passages. Enjoy. Be instructed.

There are thirty one days in the month of May and there are thirty one chapters in the book of Proverbs. You guessed it. Read a chapter a day.

Here are thirty texts encouraging us to be strong. Each is a command to obey, an example to followed or a blessing to enjoy its setting. Put the text into its contemporary context and meditate on the truth you have found. Seek to act on it during the day. Grow some spiritual muscle.

Here is a mix of Bible prophecies concerning the Lord Jesus and the events surrounding Him. They include both those fulfilled in His first advent, His birth, life, death and resurrection and also those of His second advent, His high priesthood from Heaven, His coming again for and with His Church, His enthronement, and His coming kingdom upon earth. The absolute fulfilment of prophecy of His first advent is the guarantee of the complete fulfilment of those foretelling all else.

These readings rather generally follow the style of the very early clay or stone tablets on which they would have been incised, where the title, name of the owner and introductory detail is found at the close. This writing style ceased with Jacob's sojourn in Egypt under Joseph. Long readings have been subdivided for ease of reading.

Our readings conform to very earliest tablet writing style. The name of the owner and introduction is found at its close. Example: Isaac (25:19) records Ishmael's genealogy, including his demise which he could not have written (25:17). This ancient formatting is confusing to many people. We have also sub-divided long passages. For the word 'generations' read genealogy.

The style of recording compatible with very early tablet formats changed with Jacob's settlement in Egypt under Joseph. Joseph as Prime Minister of Egypt would have been familiar with Egyptian literary methods. Longer selections have been sub-divided for our ease of reading only.

These readings follow those of Genesis, the book of beginnings. Genesis records the beginning of everything, except God, who always is. Revelation is the book of new beginnings. Practically and logically, there is the end of that which is renewed. However this book is not the revelation of new things, but the revelation of Jesus Christ (1:1). Open your eyes. Open your heart. You may see Him as you have never seen Him before.

There are many metaphors used to portray and explain the person and work of Jesus Christ, and each daily reading calls up just one of these images. Read them in their context to set your heart and mind on your Lord. The theme pauses for the Christmas celebrations.
